What separates good touch controls from the rest

The best mobile games treat the touchscreen as a feature, not a limitation. The worst ones port a controller layout and hope you won't notice your thumbs covering half the action.

Big tap targets matter more than people think. In Nitro District the drift button is generous enough that you're not fighting the screen mid-corner, and that alone makes it feel better than fancier racers.

Context matters too. A tactics game like Ironvault Tactics can afford slower, precise input, while an arcade racer needs instant response. Judging controls means judging them against what the game actually asks of you.

If you keep mis-tapping in the first ten minutes, that's rarely your fault. Good design forgives the way we actually hold our phones.
