How we judge progression in a mobile RPG
Progression is the spine of any RPG, and on mobile it's easy to get wrong. We've played too many games where leveling up just unlocks a slightly bigger number and nothing meaningful changes.
The good ones make each level feel like a new tool. A fresh ability, a reworked rotation, a reason to revisit old fights. Emberfall Chronicle nails this — by mid-game your party plays completely differently than it did at the start.
We also watch for whether grinding is optional. If side content keeps you leveled without forcing repetition, that's a green flag. If the main path stalls until you farm the same enemies for an hour, that's a red one.
When you're trying a new RPG, ask yourself after three hours: do I feel more capable, or just higher-numbered? The answer tells you almost everything.
